The Illini West baseball team traveled to Quincy to take on Quincy Notre Dame (QND) on Friday, April 19, and QND won a close game, 4-2.

Carter Chapin was hit by a pitch to open the game. Colby Robertson doubled and advanced Chapin to third base. Wesley Robertson drew a walk to load the bases. Evan Kenning struck out Shawn Watkins Jr. swinging for the first out. Chapin scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead. Colby advanced to third base and Wesley Robertson to second on the same pitch. Kenning struck out Stephen Sparks and Reece Shoup swinging to end the half inning. Logan Sutton lined out to center for the first out for QND. Oliver Triplett walked and stole second. Abram Wiewel struck out swinging for the second out. Triplett scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1. Kenning reached on an error. Elliott Hendrian courtesy ran and was caught trying to steal second to end the inning.

The Chargers failed to score in the top of the second inning. Nolan Robb popped out to second base in foul territory for the first QND out. Nick Spears walked. Gavin Doellman doubled to right, advancing Spears to third. Ethan Rose homered to left field to plate Spear, Doellman and himself for a 4-1 lead. Cale Linenfesler grounded out to shortstop and Sutton flew to second base to end the inning.

Chapin grounded out to open the Chargers third inning. Colby Robertson singled to right field. Robertson stole second and third and scored on an error by the pitcher to make it 4-2. Wesley Robertson grounded out to shortstop for the second out. Shawn Watkins Jr. doubled to left field. Sparks grounded out to shortstop to end the inning. The Raiders went in order in the third inning.

Both teams went one-two-three in the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, the Chargers got a walk from Colby Robertson but failed to score. The Raiders went one-two-three in the home fifth inning.

Sparks drew a walk but was stranded in the top of the sixth inning. The Chargers put down the Raiders one-two-three in the home sixth inning.

Nick Johnson reached first base on a dropped third strike in the seventh. The Chargers went in order after that to end the game and give the Raiders a 4-2 win.

Carlisle took the loss. He gave up four earned runs on two hits, struck out three and walked two. Kenning gave up two earned runs on three hits, struck out nine and walked three. Colby Robertson was the Chargers leading hitter going 2-2 at the plate and scoring a run.
